Opportunities to learn with TIMESTEP:
Academic Year Meetings
TIMESTEP hosts weekly meetings throughout the school year on a variety of topics relevant to students from the first year of studies through graduation. These meetings offer discipline-specific professional development support from peers, graduate students, faculty, and staff in the astronomy and physics departments. A wide range of topics are included: succeeding in your major, preparing for and applying to graduate school, engaging in research, careers in industry, securing an internship, and more.
See the Events Page for our scheduled meetings.
TIMESTEP Research Apprenticeship
The TIMESTEP Research Apprenticeship Program is an academic year program that offers 2nd year astronomy and physics majors a paid opportunity to build technical and professional skills that are transferable to both research and industry. Through weekly professional development workshops and skills-building projects in a lab overseen by a faculty advisor, the program teaches the necessary computing and hardware skills for students to land competitive positions.
Applications will be solicited in April and May for the following school year.
TIMESTEP Summer Tech Internship
TIMESTEP offers paid summer internships for STEM majors with local industry and research partners. Employment occurs in the summer after students' junior year and runs the full 13 weeks of the summer course schedule. Students from populations historically excluded from STEM careers are highly encouraged to apply, and citizenship is not required.
Applications are due March 8th for summer 2024 internships.
